Research material collected by Capt. Luis F. Emilio, chaplain of the 54th Mass. Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War, for his book entitled, "A Brave Black Regiment." Includes handwritten copies of excerpts from letters, journals, diaries, government documents, and newspapers from, 26 Jan. 1863-5 Sept. 1865, documenting the experiences of the 54th Regiment (the first Black regiment raised in the North), including information on Robert Gould Shaw. Collection also includes an unbound scrapbook containing letters, orders, clippings and other memorabilia related to the 54th Regiment and Emilio's involvement with the Association of Officers of the Fifty-Fourth Massachusetts Volunteers, 1863-1901.
